Using MotionClip to capture and tag game film video at the game
Written by admin, September 14th, 2009

When you are using MotionClip to capture game film and tag the plays live at the game, you will want to use a procedure similar to the following. These steps assume that you have already created or opened a project and connected MotionClip to your camera:

1) Make sure AutoStep is not checked.
2) Press BEGIN or F9 to start capturing video.
3) Observe the play until it finishes.
4) Press END or F10 to stop the video capture. At this moment the AutoStep option determines whether the software remains on the current row of the table or automatically advances to a new row. This is why you want it UNchecked… so it stays where it is.

5) Use the QuickTag keyboard shortcuts or drop down lists to set the play parameters for the play you just recorded.

6a) Press NEXT or F11 to insert a new row in the table. Wait until the next play is about to happen and return to step 2
    -or-
6b) Press BEGIN or F9 to automatically insert a new row AND begin capturing video immediately. Return to step 3.

How do I combine video clips from multiple games?
Written by admin, July 15th, 2008

To combine multiple data files in MotionClip use the following procedure:

1) Open the first data file/game film set as usual
2) Use “Insert a data file into this session” under the file menu to choose additional data files/video sets.

Please note that this will add the tagged plays and the video files into the first data file. We recommend that you use “Save as…” and name the resulting combined data set something different. This way you can continue to add new data sets without messing up your initial file.

As an example, let’s say that you have three individual game films tagged, with data files named “game1.csv”, “game2.csv”, and “game3.csv”. You could open game1.csv, and then save it as “2008season.csv”. Next, insert game2.csv and game3.csv. Now, you still have each individual game as well as one large data file that covers all three games.

MotionClip 6.1.5 release notes
Written by admin, January 3rd, 2008

Today we uploaded version 6.1.5 of MotionClip game film video editing software to our site. Here is a summary of the enhancments in this version:

1) Unused parameters are now hidden from the main screen and table so you can have larger space for the text in those parameters which you do use.

2) The comments now appear in lead in screens.

3) The “skip forward” button was fixed to advance approximately 5 seconds (it was only moving 1 second).

4) A couple of keyboard shortcuts were added for the Play and jump buttons (Ctrl-P = play/pause, Ctrl-B = jump back, Ctrl-N = jump forward).

5) We added a “seconds” display in the bottom right corner, in addition to the hours:minutes:seconds time display that was already there. This should help you relate to the currently tagged video position a little easier.
